16 Trillion Dollars Illustrated

(Source: Fox News Insider)

The US National Debt has officially broken the 16 trillion dollar mark.  It is hard to imagine how much a billion is, let alone a trillion.  Yet these large numbers are thrown around as if they were nothing…

What Does One TRILLION Dollars Look Like?

All this talk about “stimulus packages” and “bailouts”…

A billion dollars…

A hundred billion dollars…

Eight hundred billion dollars…

One TRILLION dollars…

What does that look like?  I mean, these various numbers are tossed around like so many doggie treats, so I thought I’d take Google Sketch-up out for a test drive and try to get a sense of what exactly a trillion dollars looks like.

We’ll start with a $100 dollar bill. Currently the largest U.S. denomination in general circulation.  Most everyone has seen them, slightly fewer have owned them.  Guaranteed to make friends wherever they go.

$100

A packet of one hundred $100 bills is less than 1/2″ thick and contains $10,000.  Fits in your pocket easily and is more than enough for a week or two of shamefully decadent fun.

$10,000

Believe it or not, this next little pile is $1 million dollars (100 packets of $10,000).  You could stuff that into a grocery bag and walk around with it.

$1,000,000 (one million dollars)

While a measly $1 million looked a little unimpressive, $100 million is a little more respectable.  It fits neatly on a standard pallet…

$100,000,000 (one hundred million dollars)

And $1 BILLION dollars… now we’re really getting somewhere…

$1,000,000,000 (one billion dollars)

Next we’ll look at ONE TRILLION dollars.  This is that number we’ve been hearing so much about.  What is a trillion dollars?  Well, it’s a million million.  It’s a thousand billion.  It’s a one followed by twelve zeros.

You ready for this?

It’s pretty surprising.

Go ahead…

Scroll down…

Ladies and gentlemen… I give you $1 trillion dollars

$1,000,000,000,000 (one trillion dollars)

Notice those pallets are double stacked.
…and remember those are $100 bills.

So the next time you hear someone toss around the phrase “trillion dollars”… that’s what they’re talking about.

Now multiply this huge stack by sixteen to get a picture of what 16 trillion dollars looks like!  Sobering indeed and it is only a matter of time before this debt ridden house built on sand comes crashing down.

Matthew 7:24-27
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

Have you carelessly and foolishly built your house (life) upon the sand of this world or have you instead been a wise builder and built your life upon the rock, Jesus Christ?  The storm that is coming will test every foundation.  When it subsides, will your house still be standing or will it have fallen?

Until That Day…

1 Timothy 6:17-19
17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
